Innovative Minds Ignite at Zero Labs x UNLV Innovation Launchpad
The first Zero Labs x UNLV Innovation Launchpad has successfully wrapped up, having transformed the third floor of Black Fire Innovation, known as rebelwork, into a hive of groundbreaking ideas and creative collaboration. The three-day event drew twenty-one innovative minds, including local pioneers and individuals from cities across the country, as well as one team that joined from Chile. This gathering was proudly supported by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Office of Economic Development and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Knowledge Fund.
Quinton Singleton, Founder & Principal at Zero Labs, captured the spirit of the event: "The Innovation Launchpad is Vegas' cornerstone program for startups and early stage companies. At the Q1 2024 Launchpad, it was nothing short of inspiring to see the diverse and experienced cohort of founders and entrepreneurs unite to turn their visions into actionable plans. It's a clear signal that Nevada is not just embracing change but is at the forefront of driving it."
The initiative kicked off Friday morning, featuring a full day of work that closed with a buzzing networking event on Friday that included over 100 attendees. This gathering was a melting pot of thought leaders, industry experts, angel investors, venture capitalists, and aspiring innovators, all sharing a common vision for the future of entrepreneurship in Nevada. Throughout the weekend, participants honed their ideas with the guidance of over a dozen subject matter experts, delving into workshops that spanned everything from defining the core elements of their business through competitive strategy and development approaches.
"The Innovation Launchpad is not just an event; it's the birthplace of tomorrow's industry leaders," said Dr. Robert Rippee, Director of Black Fire Innovation. "The raw talent and sheer determination we witnessed promise an exciting future for the innovation landscape."
Bo Bernhard, UNLV VP of Economic Development, echoed this sentiment: "Seeing these participants bring such vibrant energy and creativity has been an inspiration. It's clear that the path to innovation is being paved right here in Las Vegas."
Participants also praised the event, highlighting the unparalleled support and expertise available. 'The weekend propelled my business concepts forward by two years,' shared one attendee. 'I am not sure I can adequately convey how transformative Zero Labs Innovation Launchpad was… the team created something special, and I feel extremely fortunate to have been a part of it,' said another.
Karsten Heise, Senior Director of Strategic Programs & Innovation, reflected on the event's success, stating, "The convergence of such diverse and innovative ideas at the Innovation Launchpad has been truly impressive. The ambition and potential demonstrated by the participants are indicative of the robust future that lies ahead for Nevada's economic development. This event is a prime example of how strategic collaboration and targeted support can yield substantial results in fostering a culture of innovation."
Following the program, participants will continue to have access to an active community platform, office hours, and other support provided by all three organizations. Additionally, as they move forward, they're not only armed with new skills and connections but also with the mantle of mentorship for the next cohort, ensuring a continuous cycle of innovation.
Zach Miles, UNLV Senior Associate Vice President for Economic Development, concluded, "The success of this program hinges on the solid foundation provided by UNLV OED and GOED. It's a testament to what can be achieved when we invest in innovation."
Stay tuned for announcements about the spring session and witness the growth of these promising entrepreneurs.
